Tax deductions for shading systems

A guide to the tax breaks provided by the government to install structures that shelter from the sun and save on the costs of air conditioning systems. The measure has also been extended for 2024. With the increase in sensitivity towards environmental issues and energy saving, more and more families and companies are investing in solutions to improve the energy efficiency of their homes and offices. Among these, shading systems such as knee-mounted sunshades or folding sunshades, curtains, shutters and roller blinds, play a fundamental role. Fortunately, there are tax incentives that make these solutions even more convenient. In this article we will explore in detail the tax deductions available for those who, like you, are thinking of installing shading systems.

What is the tax deduction for shading systems?

The tax deduction for shading systems is part of the broader Ecobonus, a tax relief that the Italian State offers to incentivize energy requalification interventions. This bonus allows you to recover a portion of the expenses incurred for the purchase and installation of devices that improve the thermal insulation and energy efficiency of buildings.

Types of eligible shading systems

Tax deductions can be applied to different types of shading systems, including:

Knee and book sunshades: innovative shading system for facades, custom-built and in different materials, which allows you to experience a new relationship with the outside.

Roller shutters and blinds: most common systems that, when installed on windows, help reduce heat loss.

Awnings: useful for shielding windows from direct solar radiation, reducing the heating of internal environments.

Mobile solar screens: devices that can be adjusted based on the position of the sun, optimizing the light and heat that enter the rooms.

Requirements to access the deduction

To benefit from the tax deduction, it is necessary to satisfy some specific requirements:

Technical characteristics: the shading systems must comply with specific technical characteristics required by the regulations in force. For example, they must be installed to protect a glass surface and must be adjustable.

Eligible interventions: the deduction covers both the purchase and installation of the shading systems.

Certification: it is necessary to obtain and keep the energy certification of the building (APE) and the technical documentation that demonstrates the conformity of the installed products.

Traceable payments: expenses must be incurred via bank or postal transfer specifically for building renovations, with the reason for the payment, the tax code of the beneficiary of the deduction and the VAT number or tax code of the beneficiary of the payment.

Spending rates and limits

The 2022 Budget Law has extended the deadline for the ordinary Ecobonus to December 31, 2024, the rates of which generally correspond to:

50% for work relating to fixtures, solar screens, biomass;

65% for other spending categories;

70%-75% for expenses that affect common condominium areas without reducing seismic risk.

The deadlines change if we talk about the Ecobonus 110%, or the Superbonus that concerns energy efficiency works. The maneuver confirmed the possibility of using it in full until December 31, 2023, while in 2024 and 2025 the deduction rate was lowered to 70% and 65% respectively.

Procedure for requesting the deduction

To request the tax deduction, it is necessary to follow a specific procedure:

Collect the documentation, then keep all the invoices and receipts of the payments made.

Send the communication to ENEA (National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development) within 90 days of the end of the works, via the dedicated web portal.

Enter the deduction in the Income Tax Return, indicating the expenses incurred through the specific models (730 or Unico).

By following the requirements and procedures indicated so far, it is possible to take advantage of a significant economic incentive, while contributing to environmental sustainability.

Therefore, trusting that these indications are useful to you, we invite you to evaluate the installation of shading systems: not only do they contribute to improving the energy efficiency of your home or office, but they also represent an opportunity to save thanks to the tax deductions offered by the State.
